Planning a day out with the family can feel like preparing for a military campaign. You load up with all kinds of kit, and keep your fingers crossed that your chosen destination will provide what you can’t carry.

This guide aims to make life easier for you. By exploring the pubs listed in these pages, you can be sure of a happy family lunch or drinks with friends, safe in the knowledge that each one has passed the Hampshire Tourism Partnership’s ‘family friendly’ test.

We have visited pubs across the Hampshire countryside looking for those which offer a warm welcome for children. We’ve rated parking, high chairs, entertainments, gardens, menus and baby changing facilities. And out of all those that we visited, we have chosen those which we think promise the best all-around experience.

They won’t all provide organic baby food or free nappies or a basket of toys. But they do all offer welcoming touches which mean that you can relax and enjoy yourself. And as far as possible, we have selected pubs near a tourist attraction or activity in case you want to make a day of it.
