The War to End all Wars at The Spring

The War to End all Wars at The Spring

Workshop

A tangible past in touchable form, a Textile Book of Commemoration.

2014 brings the centenary of the First World War, a terrible, tragic and unforgettable event that damaged and changed the lives of countless individuals.

As accounts of The War verge on slipping out of living memory, here at The Spring we are working towards a project which will encapsulate YOUR memories, the names of YOUR loved ones and YOUR history and heritage in art. Textile artist Margaret Marks is working with The Spring to produce as 3D book out of fabric, photos, paper and embroidery.

Margaret’s designs will incorporate the names of the fallen which are listed on The Havant War Memorial.

We need the public to come forward and share with us their memories, feelings, and stories of parents, grandparents, distant relations or friends who fought during The Great War, and also to create their very own poppy in remembrance. This is your time to share with us, remember, commemorate and create in respect of those who fought, lived and fell during WWI.

We are providing the community with free poppy packs; these packs contain all the material you will need to create your very own poppy. We hope that the poppy makers will donate their completed poppy to The Spring. The poppies donated will be used as part of the display of the completed textile book by Margaret.

Come along and meet Margaret, have a FREE coffee and a piece of cake and spend time remembering, talking of the war years and commemorating – lest we forget!

This is a FREE drop in session, to offer guidance on how to make your poppy, and to talk to you about your family’s stories of The Great War, or to pass on a name of someone you would like to be remembered.

Also we are offering a FREE craft for kid’s session during which little ones can make their own paper poppy, again these poppies will be used as part of the exhibition of the textile book of remembrance.
